"Welcome to Second!"

If you have walked through our doors or gathered with us in worship services, no doubt you have heard those words. We say it often and we truly mean it.


Our desire for everyone who enters our doors is to encounter Jesus and experience meaningful connections with our Second family. The people of Second Baptist are experiencing life together as a second family and we would love for you to be a part!


The Bible reveals a couple of truths about the church...

IT IS CALLED THE BRIDE

OF CHRIST

This relates to our relationship to Jesus Christ. It expresses that the church is the object of Jesus' affection. Jesus loves His bride, the church, sacrificially. He loves the church completely.

IT IS CALLED THE BODY

OF CHRIST

This term relates to our relationship to one another as we follow Jesus together. The Bible describes how we relate to one another as part of the church.

We, individually, are like the different members that make up one body where Jesus is the head. Just as the human body is made up of different parts, but is connected as a whole,

so is the church made up of different individuals joined together as one body.

The description of individual Christians as members of the same body is the origin of meaning when we talk about becoming a member at Second Baptist Church. The local church is an expression of the larger church in a specific location. The larger church is represented by all believers of Jesus around the world.


Since 1885, the Lord has used Second Baptist Church to be a visible presence of His church in Springfield and Southwest Missouri.

EXPECTATIONS OF MEMBERS

I will glorify the Lord of my church by seeking His fame in my life through worship and obedience.

I will protect the unity of my church by acting in love and kindness toward other members, by refusing to gossip, and by partnering with the leaders to accomplish our mission and ministry.

I will share the responsibility of my church by praying for its growth, by inviting the unchurched to attend, by warmly welcoming those who visit, and by seeking to make disciples of all nations.

I will serve the ministry of my church by discovering where God wants me to serve, by discovering my gifts and talents, by being equipped to serve by my pastors, and by developing a servant's heart.

I will support the testimony of my church by attending consistently, by living a godly life, and by giving faithfully.
