These were all ingredients in the day-trip experience as 40 of our senior adults as well as some Baby Boomers traveled together on October 27th during the recent “Ozarks Autumn Discoveries” fall foliage tour. With the experienced leadership of travel guide veteran Rosemary McMasters, our group was treated throughout the day to numerous panoramic views of the Ozark foothills dressed in an astounding array of fall colors.
After a guided tour of the Wilder home and museum near Mansfield at our first stop, the group enjoyed a delicious noon meal together at Rockbridge Trout and Game Ranch located near the confluence of Spring and Bryant Creeks where the historic Rockbridge Mill still stands.
The final stop was near Ava at the Assumption Abbey (actually established by a Methodist) where eight Trappist monks currently produce 150 fruitcakes daily in order to support their lives dedicated to prayer and devotion. Some members of the group made fruitcake purchases before boarding the accommodating Cavallo tour bus for the final homeward leg of the journey.
Plans are already in the works for new travel destinations in 2012, so be watching future issues of the “Second Half!”
