Exciting! Fun! Cool! Awesome! Those are all words used by our kids to describe Second Generation, our vibrant and engaging ministry for children from Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Second Generation meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 and 11:00 AM, for one hour, and is located upstairs, in the northeast wing of the building.
Each week the hour begins with the children meeting together in a large group to learn practical spiritual truths through story-telling, drama, animatronics, and enthusiastic teachers. We also have a music team who lead the children as they praise God through fun, lively music. In August of 2015, we began a two year curriculum called Saltersville. Saltersville is a small town full of lovable, zany characters who teach the Bible lesson to the children while they learn it themselves. In the second half of the hour, the Bible lesson is reinforced using games and activities led by Intentional Shepherds, in small groups. The small groups are divided by grade level and are designed to help the children build relationships with their peers as they learn together and are discipled by their Shepherd.
Each month during the school year children can volunteer to take part in a mission project which helps area children who are in crisis. Mission projects include Kids Feeding Kids, a backpack meal program, and building Angel Bears, which are given to children by area first responders.
SECURITY – Guest check-in and new family registration is located just north of the atrium in our Kids Check-In station. We want your child to have a safe and secure experience. The parent or adult leaving the child in our care must register each child in our check-in program. Please inform the teacher and staff of any medical or security needs.
AWANA Clubs meet on Wednesdays, from 5:45-7:15 PM, during the school year, in the Second Generation area. AWANA is a Christian club which is designed to help children grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Game time, small groups and Scripture memory are all a part of this exciting club! Registration is ongoing throughout the school year.
Student World Impact (SWI) meets on Wednesdays, from 5:45-7:15 PM, during the school year. SWI teaches children what it means to be a missionary in their everyday life, and as a career, by discipling children and teaching them about historical and current missionaries. Games, arts and crafts, and special events are all a part of this great activity for your child. Registration is ongoing throughout the school year.
Each month during the school year, a different grade meets together to build a cuddly teddy bear angel which Springfield’s Police, Ambulance, and other First Responder services give to children in their time of crisis. This is an excellent way to teach your child the value of serving others when they are hurting, as well as giving back and investing in our community.
Kids Feeding Kids
Each month during the school year, a different grade meets together to pack bags with kid-friendly, nutritious food to feed a child for the weekend who may otherwise go hungry. We partner with area schools to deliver the food to the children in need. This is an excellent way for children to serve their classmates and to be the hands and feet of Jesus in their school.
New Believers Class
Our New Believers Class meets for three weeks, twice per year, in the Fall and Spring. This class is for children who have made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ, as well as for their parents, to guide them in follow up discipleship after their child’s profession. Children discover, in depth, the importance of the decision they have made and prepares them to take their next steps of baptism and communion. After the third session of class, the children participate in a Children’s Baptism service on a Sunday evening, observe the Lord’s Supper with their families for the first time, and celebrate their spiritual birthday afterward with refreshments, music and fun! This class requires sign up after your child has made a profession of faith.
Every child is welcome in Second Generation. We do our best to pair children that have special needs with teachers and “buddies” who can best utilize your child’s God-given gifts and talents and channel them into lifelong discipleship and relationship with Jesus. If you would like to discuss how we can make your child’s experience in Second Generation a success, please contact us at any time.
