The Role of an Interim Pastor
Every church, at some point, is faced with seeking God to seek a new leader. It is common practice to seek an outside interim to preach God’s Word during the search and transition period.
At many churches, this role includes leadership of the church, leadership of the staff, preaching, small group oversight, and much more.
Because Second Baptist Church pastors and staff are equipped to be able to continue handling the majority of these functions, our need for an interim pastor is specific to these three areas:
1) PREACHING IN OUR SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES.
The Interim Pastor will preach during both Sunday morning services, be involved in some Sunday night activities and be available to meet with the Pastor Search Committee, Deacons, Group Leaders and Staff on occasion.
2) HELP PREPARE US FOR OUR NEXT LEAD PASTOR.
The Interim Pastor will help lead our church to allow the Lord to use this time to spiritually prepare our hearts for the Next Steps God has for our Church. The Interim Pastor will also help prepare us to receive our next Lead Pastor.
3) PRAYER AND ENCOURAGEMENT FOR OUR CHURCH AND STAFF.
Perhaps most importantly, the Interim Pastor will serve as an encourager to our Church and Staff and be a prayer warrior during these Next Steps.
