What's the 411 Song Talkers!? Can we just commiserate for a second on this crazy heat! Man it's nuts out there! I had the blessing of serving our students at Second Students Camp in Cave Springs OK this weekend. On Friday, I was serving up some sweet fun and sweating profusely on the slip n' slide kickball course when over my shoulder I noticed a MASSIVE storm coming our way. In less than 5 minutes the heavens opened and the temp dropped about 20 degrees. We all went from sweating like crazy to goose bumps on our sun burnt arms! Praise the Lord! His power and goodness on display!
On the way home on Saturday (I had to lead worship Sunday morning) there was a firework display directly in front of me. Man's display of power in the heavens. Huge fireworks! A myriad of colors and shapes and incredible booms going off right in front of me. It was awesome…until God demonstrated His very own display of color, light and power. Off to the north there was yet another storm brewing. If you can imagine streaks of lightning seemingly hundreds of miles long streaking across the sky in a building intensity. Monstrous booming thunder that shook my vehicle. It was intense. Reminded me of Revelation 4 which describes the activity surrounding the throne as God is worshipped by an astounding amount of people from all over the planet with great peals of lightning and mighty crashes of thunder to My experience on the road pales in comparison to what we will witness as believers on that glorious day!
I am so pumped about this weekend! One service! 10am! Celebrating God's goodness to Second and rejoicing in God's provision of a new senior pastor and his family! This is an important day in the life of our congregation. We are going to covenant together to love and serve the Lord in this new season for Second and under new leadership of Dr. John Birchett. Covenants are important to the Lord. By definition a covenant is a chosen relationship in which two parties make binding promises to each other. There are several throughout the Old Testament. The Lord made covenants with Noah, Abraham and David. And of course in the book of Jeremiah the Lord established a new covenant that would culminate in God's saving work among His people through the person and work of Jesus Christ. This weekend in one service at 10am we will verbally covenant together to love and serve together as the Lord Jesus leads us. You don't want to miss it.
Through the power of God on display in the heavens, one day Jesus will return. May he find Second Baptist Church faithful to His command to love Him with all our hearts, love our neighbors as ourselves, and make His great name known to the uttermost parts of the earth.
Hope to see you this weekend!
