Magnificent Marvelous Matchless Love

  • Song Talks

"United in Your resurrection, You lift us to infinite heights

Could anything sever or take us from Magnificent, Marvelous, Matchless Love."

"How great, how sure, His love endures

Forevermore, Magnificent, Marvelous, Matchless Love"

Yep, you guessed it, another awesome Getty tune this week! In August I'll have the opportunity to attend the 3rd annual Sing! Conference that Keith and Kristyn Getty sponsor. It is always an amazing three days of theological teaching, informative workshops and inspiring music.  Last year they introduced a new song that they co-wrote with Matt Papa and Aaron Keyes. Magnificent, Marvelous, Matchless, Love is an upbeat, fun, waltzy type of song that vividly describes the wonders of God's love for His people.

Each verse illuminates a different aspect of the love of God. Verse one takes a 10,000 foot view and portrays God's love for us in His grandness and character. It reminds the singer that God is Trinitarian in nature and benevolent in His gifts. The second verse expounds on the love of God in creation. Parcels of Psalm 19 are woven throughout the text along with the sovereign, sustaining power of God to keep it all moving!  The final verse excellently narrates the story of redemption in the coming of Christ. The lyrics are crafted to preach the gospel to the listener as we are reminded of our deep need for a Savior, and the great flood of forgiveness that flowed from the veins of Christ on the cross.

The bridge doesn't leave Christ in the grave but conveys the story of our victory in Christ's resurrection and our final security in the love of Christ. I just can't sing this song without swaying and smiling!  Now I must warn you, it's really wordy. So come to church having buzzed and bubbled you lips so they can move!  But I promise you that this new hymn will have you bouncing your way to lunch after church!  The tune is singable and memorable!

Looking forward to worshipping with you guys this weekend!
