Mother's Day is this weekend! I was blessed to be raised by a mom that was super involved in my life. She went to all the games, concerts, shows and whatever else I was involved in. She made sure I was involved in the things of God as much as possible and kept me fed and clothed in the latest fashion. That Miami Vice Don Johnson Easter jacket and shirt were my favorite! She stayed up late to wait for me to get home from dances and asked about who I danced with…which was rather annoying. She came to see my college group sing, and came to all the shows I was at Mo Bap. I'll never forget one night during our run of "Smoke on the Mountain", she was laughing so hard and loud at my character that she actually made me break character and bust up laughing behind a stage piece. Hilarious! To this day it makes me giggle. When I was doing "Forever Plaid" in a few cities across the country she came to several performances. It wasn't cheap and it wasn't always fun, but my parents were rock stars and made it happen.
Lots of great advice and hugs and chocolate chip cookies later I turned out okay! My mom is an EXCELLENT grandmother to mine and my sisters kids. She loves them just like she loved me. Well.
I'm reminded of a few moms in the Bible that were a lot like my mom. Moses mom was amazing. She protected her child from death and God saw fit to allow her to raise him under the watch care of the Pharaoh's wife! Unbelievable! Paul speaks highly of Timothy's mother and grandmother for raising him in the fear of the Lord and teaching Him the ways of God. And let's not forget the Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ. What a selfless, God-honoring, loving woman that had the pleasure of being the mother of Jesus. She was there at the beginning and there at the end. Watching her Son bear the sin of the world must have been agonizing, but she knew that was His calling and her burden to bear. I'm sure in heaven that was a wonderful reunion.
"Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate." Proverbs 31:28-30
Thanks mom! I love you!
